Any time someone asks me what my greatest achievement in life is I just respond that I have two of them and that they are the most wonderful little people that I know. Don't get me wrong, they sure know how to get to me some days, and I am sure that is something that will not change as they grow but I wouldn't change my life with them for anything else in this world. Before you become a parent you know that is is a blessing to have children but you really don't grasp what that means until they are in your arms.
My first year of motherhood was sure interesting. I had this tiny little girl that needed me for absolutely everything. I would look at her and had no idea that I could love someone so much. I would protect her with my life from anyone and anything (and still would!) but ultimately I was most afraid that I would be the one to mess up and do something wrong.
Recalling her first year there are many moments that stick out in my mind, and even many that don't, (I'm so glad we have a video camera!) the years just seem to slip away from us before we know it. But if I have to pick a single moment in that first year that is my favourite I would have to say that it was not the first time that I held her but the second. This may sound strange but the second time I got to hold her was the first time that I really got to hold her. It wasn't until she was over a day old. They took her out of the isolate in the NICU and gave her to me, and she looked at me like she had known me for years. After starting my first hours of motherhood terrified that something was wrong she made me feel like everything would be alright.

ReplyDeleteMy favorite moment of motherhood in the first year, is right after you have given birth and you get to see this little person for the very first time...priceless!!!
ReplyDeleteMy favorite moment in the first year as a mom is when my boys cuddle up to me alot (even though everyone tells me they are SPOILED) but I love it as it calms me, reassuring me that I am doing my best as a mommy. Hearing the laughs from them melts my heart, as well as seeing that they are healthy and happy made me feel better.

It seems like so long ago, and it's hard to remember those moments. The ones that stick out most in my head are not the moments when it was just me and my baby girl, but when it was our whole family, together. All of us, sitting on the couch, with the baby curled up on someone's chest, as we just talked and enjoyed each other's company. There is something about becoming a mother that makes you realize that the little things in life, like quiet moments at home, are actually the big things. I never take those for granted anymore.

ReplyDeleteI also like Baby Gourmet on Facebook. I made all my own baby food for my daughter, but I'm looking forward to having a convenient and healthy option to buy for this little one!
ReplyDeleteI have 7 children but I remember my first pregnancy like it was yesterday. She is now 29 years old and when I look at her I remember how little she was and all the milestones she made in that first year. She was walking at 7 months and by 10 months literally running around the house and throwing down all the books from the bookshelf...I remember chasing after her and her running under the table without even touching it and laughing because she knew she did wrong...was soo funny and wonderful!!
ReplyDeleteMy favourite moments were sitting in the rocking chair, cuddling, reading and singing songs. I always loved reflecting on my day and looking into my baby's face and seeing how much she was changing each day.

Oh so hard to pick my favourite moment....hmmm I would have to say, the first time I heard my baby girl giggle and laugh. That deep belly laugh that you then spend hours each day to get them to do again, and again and again!!! Would make me laugh and smile each time :)

ReplyDeleteMy favorite moment(s) was when my son would fall asleep on me. Best feeling in the world!
ReplyDeleteAs a first time mother, there are so many precious moments, that I it's hard to pick just one! My sweet son has always been the happiest baby I have ever seen, but has never been a big cuddler until recently. Now my favourite moments of everyday is when he gives me big hugs and cuddles. I love it!!!

I have so many favorite memories...but being the mother of two boys the funniest moment is always the first time they pee straight up on the air!! So much messier than girls ; ) But my favorite moments are the snuggles...and that doesn't change as they get older!!
